At Shenton Park zone substation we were contracted to install 5 new 22KV feeder cables to replace and remove the existing cables inside the area in which the new zone substation is being constructed.
Shenton Park zone Substation is a unique project in which required horizontal directional drilling 2 separate multi conduit horizontal directional drill shots underneath Live transmission main bus bars, and the removal of old cables which are intertwined with western power data cable along the route of the existing cables. To safely manage all of the potential hazards extensive planning was required during this project, and was executed safely and to the client’s satisfaction. Under the Live Transmission bus bars we needed to install 1 drill shot with 3 x 160mm conduits and another with 2 x 160, 1 x 63. During the construction under the live bus bars we had to deal through issues from mud retrieval, signal interference due to the overhead power and working under a transmission VA. All these were noted on the JRA and a risk removal process commenced to ensure it was safe for proceeding. POC mitigated these risks via:
Throughout the rest of this project we were required to install 5 x 150mm conduits with .500mm separation and an additional 2 x 80mm communications ducts. Power On utilized its vast range of equipment throughout this process which made life easier for the construction crews on the ground. Below are some rough quantities installed on the project :
